Rheinsberg in northern Germany is a very picturesque area where you can just relax, breathe in the fresh country air, walk by the lakeside or take a horse drawn carriage ride, which is accessible. Various excellent excursions are available, such as the wonderful Oranienburg Palace, Potsdam and the Babelsberg Film Park.

Alkmaar is a fascinating and lovely ancient city, with some houses dating back as far as 1573. Its cheese market is legendary and great fun. Forest, dunes and Holland’s most beautiful coastline are just a 10 minute drive away. Amsterdam is only 30 minutes away and, if you want to see the famous windmills, an excursion to Zaanse Schans can be arranged.
