The aptly named Garden Route is one of the most stunningly beautiful tours available in South Africa and includes beautiful forests, freshwater lakes, wetlands, fabulous white sand beaches, tranquil lagoons and hidden coves. This superb tour also takes in Cape Town, one of the worlds most beautiful cities, and a magnificent private game reserve. 

Day 1:

Arrive in Cape Town and transfer to your hotel of choice and stay four nights.

Day 2:

Visit Table Mountain, taking the cable car to the top (weather permitting). City tour followed by visit to fabulous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Hout Bay for an optional boat trip to view Cape Fur seals.

Day 3:

Visit Cape of Good Hope Reserve and penguin colony at False Bay. On to Cape Point in the reserve, where we take a funicular ride to the Old Lighthouse, built in 1860. We return via the famous Chapmans Peak Drive (subject to being open), this is a breathtaking experience of mountain and sea scapes.

Day 4:

Visit famous Stellenbosch winelands, including wine tastings.

Day 5:

Depart for Garden Route. Drive via stunning Breede River Valley and through magnificent passes. Overnight at a lovely Guest House in Calitzdorp.

Day 6:

Depart for Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich capital. Visit the Wildlife Ranch. Pass through stunning mountain scenery to the coastal area of the Garden Route. Overnight in Knysna for two nights.

Day 7:

Visit Knysna, this area is well known for it indigenous rare woods and curved wood curio. There will be time to spend shopping or just people watching at one of the side-walk cafes.There are many small shops to browse through, from curious, jewelery and flea market type stalls. Cruise the Knysa lagoon.

Day 8:

Make our way to the malaria-free 5-star private game reserve on the Eastern Cape, and spend two nights. They have the BIG 5 on this reserve, being Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino and rangers make every effort for you to see as much as possible.

Day 9:

Spend the day touring the reserve, with games drives included. As well as the Big 5, the reserve has won many awards for animal conservation.

Day 10:

After morning Game Drive and breakfast we start returning down the Garden Route. Visit Port Elizabeth and overnight in Plettenberg Bay or Knysna.

Day 11:

Drive to Mossel Bay where the first Portuguese Navigator Dias landed in 1488. Visit an aloe factory, famous for its healing properties. Overnight on a Guest Farm in the Heidelberg district.

Day 12:

Visit historic town of Swellendam, a mix of Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture. Stop for berry liquor tasting. Return to Cape Town via Sir Lowrys pass for overnight stay.

Day 13:

Transfer to airport for flight home.

Terrain

To ensure an excellent high standard of service you will be personnally escorted on your tour by the tour organisers who will help you experience a real mini adventure in the wild. Each of the properties included in this tour have a few wheelchair friendly rooms. These facilities vary from place to place, some are more accessible than others. Wheelchair adapted vehicles are provided in Cape Town and standard vehicles are used in Port Elizabeth and at the Game Reserve.

Equipment

Accomodations vary in the facilities they are able to offer. Some of the facilities include wider doors, spacious bathrooms, lowered light switches and mirrors, roll-in showers with fold down seats, grab rails, enough space next to the WC to park the wheelchair. Services of a registered Professional Practitioner Nurse can be arranged for minor medical procedures. Hire of medical equipment, including manual wheelchairs and oxygen therapy must be arranged at time of booking with our Travel Advisors.
