Making The Algarve Accessible

Accessible Travel, the specialist tour operator for disabled travellers, has introduced a range of villa and hotel holidays to Portugal for 2015.

The villas have been selected not only for their location but also for the facilities offered. These include pool hoists, bathrooms with roll in showers, shower chairs and grab rails, and in one of the properties even a lift to easily move from the living area to the sun terrace and pool. Accessible Travel can also arrange hire of additional equipment that can be delivered directly to the villas. Car hire of adapted vehicles is also available allowing customers the freedom to easily get around and explore the surrounding areas.

There’s also a selection of 4 and 5-star hotels in Vilamoura, all of which offer wheelchair accessible rooms. Vilamoura is a very accessible town that's very flat and easy to wheel around for general exploring, shopping, eating out and going to the beach. The marina is a real focal point. Majority of shops, bars and restaurants have outside seating or ramped access to get inside.

As with all holidays offered the Accessible Travel team, who are all experienced in disability travel & tourism, have visited and vetted all of these properties to ensure that they will meet their customers’ needs. An audit of accessible facilities is available on their website Accessible Travel also offers tailored flight bookings with all airport & airline assistance taken care of and adapted transfers, in the resort, taking you straight to your accommodation.

Ali Parker, General Manager of Accessible Travel, says, “we are always looking for new destinations for our customers. The Algarve coastline is flat and renowned for being accessible, the majority of its golden sandy beaches providing wooden cladded areas, ideal for wheelchair users.”

“We are really pleased with the selection of villas we’ve found and how well they cater for the less mobile. We’ve also ensured that our customers booking the villas can easily hire have adapted vehicles to get around and make the most of their holidays and enjoy an accessible holiday in the Algarve."
